Sonny was born in Cebu City and raised in Las Piñas in the Philippines before moving to Australia in 2002. He grew up in the Roman Catholic tradition and later graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering, eventually building a career in the information technology field within a multinational general insurance company. Sonny came to saving faith in 2003 when a close family friend shared the gospel with him.

He and his wife, Christine, married in 2000 and now have two children, Shaun and Sophie. Sonny serves as a Deacon overseeing the Mercy Ministry at GraceWest Bible Church. His desire is to see the church grow in the knowledge and faith of Christ.
